Hydrogen production in China and its use in motor transport

Abstract

China is a world leader in the market for the introduction of environmentally friendly energy technologies, including solar, wind, nuclear power and hydroelectric power plants. However, over the past five years, coal-based electricity production has increased by 20%, while natural gas-based generation has grown by 40%. Since electricity demand in China is much higher than in any other country, the pace at which China is transitioning to clean energy is of great importance for the global ecosystem, particularly when the growth of clean energy in China exceeds total electricity demand. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (FCV) technologies and transport have attracted considerable attention, and today China is one of the leading countries in this field. The directions of hydrogen consumption in China are discussed in this article.
