Prospects for creating a collective currency of the BRICS countries and its potential features

Abstract

The article analyzes the prospects for creating a collective currency of the BRICS countries, considers various models for the functioning of this currency and calculation methods of its exchange rates to other currencies. The most likely model for the functioning of the hypothetical BRICS currency is the basket type collective currency. It makes sense to put this currency into circulation in addition to national currencies, which already occupy 38 % in the currency structure of mutual trade, while in 2013 their share was 2 %.
